hail

jeremy and i planted our garden yesterday! last year we planted all kinds of herbs and vegetables in raised beds jeremy made from some extra wood planks found at the lake. he even set up an irrigation system so we wouldnt have to worry about watering them.

this year we planted in containers due to our lack of a yard. i cant tell you how excited i am to cook with fresh herbs again!

here is our set-up:

i planted a yellow snapdragon with creeping jenny in the planter on the left. in the cluster of planters we have tomatoes in the huge pot in back corner (i hope it grows all the way to the window sill!), arugula seeds with the bell peppers, fern leaf dill, rosemary and lavender. in the pots on the sills is basil, parsley and cilantro. the ones coming up between the sidewalk and the house we didnt plant -- they were already there :)

home depot didnt have jalapenos yet and its too late to grow from seed so we will have to add a pot when we get it. when we were finished planting, we went on a couple of errands and when when we got back it had hailed! our precious new baby plants were crushed by hail! the dill and basil suffered the most -- the hail tearing holes in the basil leaves and trying to bury the dill in its soil!

REALLY?! HAIL? what are the odds of that happening only a couple of hours after you plant your garden? and on such a pretty sunny & warm day? so strange.

hopefully they will survive! they are looking better already but we will see.
